Time to start posting more frequently...or not

As a general rule I am a terrible blogger but an admirable historian. So perhaps I can try and coalesce the two into a decent attempt. Today was the mid-terms for the semester, well the second of two and after writing for nearly two hours straight I am burnt out. Attempting to forge powerful ideas from the concepts on that paper was easy getting them to come out of my gnarled mitt after years of computer typing was not so much.

I swear my right paw was literally a blaze for a moment towards the end and I know I quietly shed a tear when I popped my muscle attaching my thumb out of place and back in. But otherwise it was a good time except for the searing pain burning in my paw as if somebody was driving a hot poker into it.

On top of it all Dr. X mentioned me on the mid-term by name. Now we had spoken momentarily about the research she was doing and discussed the Tea Party and their media-driven stance, this turned into a whole question on the mid-term and my name was explicitly linked to it. I felt both honored and a little embarrassed, it isn't exactly often this sort of thing happens. So then I was absolutely forced into doing that essay though I intended it from the start since it was a topic I understood in-depth and wanted to talk about it. 5 pages later and 8 paragraphs in I finally shut it down after covering all the angles and explaining as much as I could on it I gave up and did the second essay which stretched another 5 pages and 10 paragraphs.

Overall I feel very comfortable in what I am doing, I lack direction at time, I think I need to speak with Dr. B to find the orientation I need, I know the general direction I want to drive down but I am without a map as to how to approach it. My gently drifting delorean is rolling up slowly upon the highway but I need his input as to how to merge with this information turnpike. Many of my thoughts are tied more so to the era and periods than specific events so hunting down information is going to be far harder and involve serious legwork.

I'm debating right now if I should try and get in contact with the AFL-CIO to try and purview their records and perhaps make various copies if I get the chance. They may become my de facto main focus for the future as I work on this or I may go a completely new direction. I'm not an economist but I think I may end up playing one on TV at the rate I am going working on this idea.

There is a discussion weekend over spring break this up coming year on economics and civic society and I am tempted to go to the conference though it lasts all weekend. It is something I think I may need to attend just because I am going to inevitably need to get in touch with the economics department for certain research aids or at the very least to help get some number crunching done to safely estimate theoretical wages and adjustments for inflation.

So you think you can blog?

I stupidly decided to start blogging as if the world cares what I think. But living in Pittsburgh and being a grad student means I need to be a trendy hipster. So here I go....Starting a blog. Soon i'll be writing papers but I feel the need to have an outlet about politics of the day, pop culture that suits me, and generally being silly.

Also, before I get asked a million times, Grant does mean President Grant. I just find the line hilarious because it crosses star wars (which I was once a huge fan of) with my historical love affair with reconstruction and beyond. I'll try to update daily if not, atleast three times a week seems about right. I'm not cool enough to be Amanda Marcotte over at Pandagon but I will try to pop my thoughts up here for all to see. Then vigorously deny them if ever caught.
